A young pack with a sudden, specific fault is almost always worth repairing. An old pack with gradual, general decline almost always isn't. Most real cases sit somewhere between the two, which is exactly why we run a proper diagnostic test rather than guessing from a description over the phone.
Option 1: BMS Replacement
The Battery Management System (BMS) is the small circuit board that protects the cells, balances charge across them, and communicates voltage and capacity to your display. It's a separate, replaceable component — not the cells themselves — which is why a BMS fault is usually the cheapest and fastest fix on this list.
What it fixes: failure to charge at all, cells not balancing correctly, the BMS cutting the power under load or on hills, and inconsistent voltage readings on the display that don't match how the battery actually performs. These are the most common faults we see on the bench, and they're frequently mistaken for "the battery is dying" when the cells underneath are still perfectly healthy.

Option 2: Cell Group Repair or Pack Rebuild
If the BMS itself checks out fine but one cell group is reading noticeably lower than the rest, or the pack fails a load test unevenly rather than uniformly, the fault is in the cells — not the electronics protecting them. This is a more involved repair: it means opening the pack, identifying the specific failing group, and replacing it with matched cells of the correct chemistry, capacity, and internal resistance.
We quote this after diagnostic testing rather than as a flat price, because the cost genuinely depends on how many cell groups are affected and how the pack is built. As a rule of thumb: a single failing group in an otherwise healthy pack is usually still cheaper than a full replacement battery; a pack with several groups down, or one that's simply old, usually isn't.
Option 3: New Battery
Sometimes replacement genuinely is the right call, and we'll tell you that rather than repairing something that isn't worth repairing. This is usually the case when the pack is old enough that cell ageing is the underlying cause rather than a single fixable fault, when several cell groups have failed rather than one, or when there's physical damage — swelling, heat damage, water ingress into the cells themselves rather than just the connectors.

Diagnostic testing is a flat £20 across every voltage — capacity load test, BMS fault check, and cell voltage balance check, so you get an actual answer rather than a guess. BMS replacement pricing scales with voltage, since higher-voltage BMS units cost more to source:

How We Diagnose Before Quoting Anything
We discharge the pack at a steady rate and log actual Ah delivered against its original rated capacity, rather than relying on the display's estimate.
We check whether the BMS is reporting and protecting correctly, and measure individual cell group voltages to see whether the pack is discharging evenly or one group is dragging the rest down.
