The controller is the brain of any electric bike system. It manages power flow between the battery, motor, display, throttle and pedal assist sensor — and choosing the right one has a direct impact on how your eBike accelerates, responds and performs under load.
Whether you're replacing a failed controller, upgrading an existing conversion kit or sourcing components for a custom build, our range covers everything from compact 17A brushless units for 250W–350W systems through to professional-grade 200A FOC sine wave controllers for high-power electric motorcycles and EV projects.
Controller and motor matching is critical. The key variables are battery voltage, motor wattage and current rating (amps). Running a controller under-rated for your motor will limit performance; running one over-rated without proper motor compatibility can cause damage. As a general guide: 250W–500W hub motor systems pair well with 17A–20A controllers on 36V or 48V; 1000W systems typically run a 30A controller on 48V or 52V; 1500W systems suit a 35A unit; 2000W builds move up to 45A; and 3000W+ systems require 60A sine wave controllers or higher.
For Bafang mid-drive motors, protocol matters as much as amperage. BBS01 and BBS02 systems use either UART or CAN-BUS communication — the controller must match the protocol of your display and wiring harness. BBSHD systems are available in both UART and CAN-BUS variants. If you're unsure which protocol your system uses, message us before ordering.
Standard square wave controllers are cost-effective and reliable for everyday riding. Sine wave controllers deliver power in a smoother waveform, producing quieter motor operation, reduced vibration, better low-speed torque control and improved efficiency — particularly noticeable on high-power builds above 2000W. Our 60A sine wave controller is the recommended choice for 3000W hub motor kits, and the Sabvoton 200A FOC unit is built for riders demanding maximum performance from high-voltage systems.
Your controller must be rated for your battery voltage. Browse our full range of 36V, 48V, 52V and 72V lithium packs.

Ask Us on WhatsAppMatch the controller's rated voltage to your battery voltage, and ensure the current rating (amps) is appropriate for your motor wattage. For Bafang mid-drive motors, also check whether your system uses UART or CAN-BUS communication — the controller must match your display protocol. If you're unsure, contact us with your motor model and battery voltage.
Common symptoms include the motor not powering on, intermittent or absent pedal assist, throttle not responding, display communication errors, unexpected shutdowns and reduced or erratic power output. In most cases, replacing the controller restores full system function without needing to replace the motor.
UART and CAN-BUS are two different communication protocols used by Bafang mid-drive motors to exchange data between the controller, display and other components. UART is more widely compatible with aftermarket displays and programming tools, making it popular for custom builds. CAN-BUS is used in newer Bafang systems and offers improved communication stability. The two are not interchangeable — your controller, motor and display must all use the same protocol.
For everyday commuting on lower-power systems, a standard square wave controller is perfectly adequate. However, on builds of 2000W and above, a sine wave controller delivers noticeably smoother acceleration, quieter motor operation, reduced vibration and improved efficiency — particularly at low speeds and under heavy load. For 3000W+ builds, we strongly recommend a sine wave controller.
Increasing controller amperage beyond what the motor is designed to handle will generate excessive heat and can permanently damage the motor windings or controller MOSFETs. Always match your controller's current rating to your motor's specifications. If you want more power, the correct approach is to upgrade to a higher-rated motor and controller together.
