The rotor is the rotating magnet assembly inside the motor — a shaft-mounted ring carrying permanent magnets that spins inside the stator, the stationary copper-wound part, to generate the rotating magnetic field that actually drives the motor. It also carries the magnetic timing ring the motor’s internal Hall sensors read to determine rotor position for commutation, which is a separate function from the external PAS cadence sensor on your crank.
Motor whine or resonance noise is a common sign of magnets working loose on the rotor body. High heat from sustained hard riding softens the adhesive bonding the magnets in place, and high RPM adds shear force that can eventually fling a loose magnet free — a gradual wear mechanism rather than a sudden one. Pulsating clanking or grinding noise, or the motor working with no resistance in one direction, points at rotor or bearing-surface wear. And if your bike works fine in throttle/walk mode but assist fails or cuts out while actually pedalling, that can indicate a damaged magnetic timing ring on the rotor rather than a PAS sensor fault — worth ruling out before you buy a sensor instead.
Fits the BBS02 750W UART kit and BBS02B CAN-BUS kit, and pairs with the BBS02 UART controller or BBS02 CAN-BUS controller.
