This small circuit board carries three Hall-effect sensors that read the rotor’s internal magnetic timing ring as it spins, telling the controller exactly where the rotor is at any instant so it can fire the motor windings in the right sequence. This is internal motor commutation sensing — a completely different job from the external PAS, speed and gear sensors on your handlebars and frame, even though they all use the same basic Hall-effect principle.
Genuine failure of the Hall ICs themselves is actually uncommon — but when it happens, symptoms include sudden power cuts, laggy or jittery acceleration, an unfamiliar error code on your display, or in some cases no code at all, just a silent cutout followed by a jerky response when you twist the throttle again. Because the board sits behind an easily removed side cover with a single plug-in connector, it’s one of the fastest, cheapest things to rule out before committing to a full motor teardown for a suspected stator or rotor fault.
