What the Spring and Ball System Actually Does
Padding and suspension solve two different problems, and this saddle is built around the second one. Foam absorbs small, constant vibration — the buzz of a rough surface. It does very little about a single sharp hit: a kerb edge, a pothole lip, a drain cover. A sprung saddle handles that by letting the whole shell move downward and return, so the impact is spread out over time instead of arriving through your tailbone all at once. The springs sit at the rear where your weight lands, and the ball shock absorber under the shell damps the movement so it settles rather than bouncing on.
Two honest trade-offs come with that. It weighs 670–700 g, which is several times a plain race saddle. And a sprung saddle has a small amount of movement in it that some riders love and others find unsettling on a bike they ride hard out of the saddle. If you sit upright, ride on ordinary British road surfaces and mostly want the hits taken out, that movement is the whole point. If you want the wide, cushioned shape but a solid platform underneath, buy the padded one instead.
Sprung Saddles and Rigid E-Bike Frames
This suits a converted bike particularly well, for a reason that is easy to miss. A conversion kit does not change your frame or your fork — it just means you now cover twice the distance, at a higher average speed, on the same rigid or hardtail bike. Every surface imperfection arrives faster and more often, and you are sitting down for far more of the ride because you are not standing up to climb. A hardtail with no rear suspension has exactly one place left to absorb that, and it is the saddle.
The narrow front section is worth noting too. Wide saddles get a reputation for chafing, and it is usually the nose that causes it rather than the back — a wide nose sits between your thighs and rubs on every pedal stroke. This one keeps the width at the back where your sit bones need support and narrows sharply at the front so your legs stay clear. The built-in rear reflector is a small bonus that keeps one more piece of required equipment on the bike without another bracket on the seatpost.
Fitting and Setup
It is listed for bicycle, mountain bike and road bike use, and mounts on a conventional twin-rail seatpost clamp. After fitting, set your saddle height again from scratch rather than matching the old mark on your post — the 130 mm build height means your old position will leave you too high. Set the saddle level first, then adjust height, then fore-aft. If your seatpost is already at its minimum insertion mark, tell us before ordering and we will check whether you have room.
Still deciding? Compare it with the Saddle for bike, which is 10 mm longer, 5 mm narrower and 45 mm lower, with high-density padding and perforated ventilation in place of the springs. Other comfort and safety parts are in bicycle parts.
Warranty and Returns
Every saddle purchased from All4eBikes is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, alongside a 30-day return window.
