This gear sits between the motor’s fast-spinning shaft and the crank output, and Bafang builds it from nylon on purpose: it runs quieter than a metal gear, and it’s a deliberate sacrificial weak point — cheaper and safer to fail than letting overload stress reach the motor’s windings or bearings. The trade-off is a well-documented failure mode under sustained high load.
Under high heat and load — hard takeoffs from a stop in too high a gear, an oversized chainring, or grease contaminating the seal and softening the nylon prematurely — the gear’s teeth soften to a peanut-butter consistency and disintegrate. The tell-tale symptom is the motor spinning audibly while the chainring doesn’t turn: you can hear the motor running with no power reaching the drivetrain. This is exactly the failure this gear was designed to absorb, so replacing it restores the bike to normal running rather than indicating anything else has gone wrong.
Fits the BBS01 250W kit and BBS02 750W UART kit (older/G1 generation) — it mates directly with the axial pinion, so inspect both if either shows wear.
