Ride a mountain bike through a wet Cardiff winter without a rear guard and the tyre throws a continuous stripe of water and grit straight up your back. That is the obvious cost. The less obvious one is what the same spray does further forward: rear-tyre pick-up lands on the seat tube, the rear brake and the top of the drivetrain, and the grit in it is what wears chains and pads faster than the mileage alone would suggest. A guard over the rear tyre intercepts most of that before it gets there.
That matters more on a converted bike than a standard one. A rear hub motor kit, a frame or rack battery and the cable runs between them all sit in the firing line of the rear wheel, and a converted bike tends to get ridden in weather a pedal bike would have stayed home in — because the assistance makes a wet, windy commute perfectly manageable. If you are riding your conversion through the winter rather than parking it, a rear guard is the cheapest maintenance you will do.

This Back Fender for Mountain Bike is the rear-only option for a 26″–29″ mountain bike or MTB-based conversion. The Mountain Bike Set Mudguards is the same wheel-size range supplied as a front-and-rear pair, adjustable to your wheel. The Front Mudguard Surron Style is a different shape entirely — it is cut for Surron-style e-bike frames and will not suit a conventional MTB fork.
Before ordering, check that your frame has clearance behind the seat tube and that nothing is already mounted there — a rear rack, a rack-mounted battery or a rear light bracket will often want the same space. If you are running a rack battery, measure before you buy and we will tell you whether it will sit alongside.
