What the Rotor Does
The rotor is the rotating magnet assembly inside the motor — a shaft-mounted ring carrying permanent magnets that spins inside the stator to generate the field that drives the motor, and it typically carries the magnetic timing ring the internal Hall sensors read for commutation. The BBSHD’s higher torque and larger case use an 8-pole design, against the 16-pole rotor on the smaller BBS01/BBS02 motors — a genuine mechanical difference, not just a labelling one, which is why the two are not interchangeable.
Why a Rotor Fails
Vibration or a grinding/scraping sensation while pedalling points at bearing wear letting the rotor wobble and scrape the stator. A sudden efficiency drop or complete loss of assist can follow. High heat from sustained hard riding can also soften the adhesive bonding the magnets to the rotor body over time, and neodymium magnets are brittle — never pry a rotor off with a screwdriver near the magnets, use a proper bearing puller.
Fitment and Related Parts
Fits the BBSHD 1000W conversion kit and pairs with the BBSHD controller. Pair with the matching BBSHD stator, or buy both together as a matched motor core bundle if you’re unsure which generation you have. For fitting help, see our full Bafang service.
Warranty and Returns
Every Rotor purchased from All4eBikes is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, alongside a 30-day return window.
