Where the 320 mm Shackle Length Helps
Shackle length is the spec people regret getting wrong. A short D-lock is harder to attack — less room to get a tool in — but it also has to reach around a frame tube, a wheel and whatever you are locking to, all at once. At 320 mm this is the long version, and that length is what makes it usable against a real-world Sheffield stand, a lamp post or a fat-tubed e-bike frame. Locking to a chunky aluminium down tube with a battery mount on it is exactly the situation where a short lock will not close.
Use the length properly rather than lazily. Fill the U as much as you can — frame plus rear wheel plus the stand, with the barrel facing downward and away from easy access. A lock with a large air gap inside it gives a thief room to work; the same lock with the space filled does not.
Being Realistic About E-Bike Security
An electric bike, or a good bike with a conversion kit on it, is worth several times what a used pedal bike is worth, and thieves know it. That changes what a lock is for. No lock stops a determined, equipped thief with time and privacy — what a good lock does is take too long, make too much noise, and push someone toward an easier target nearby.
The Patrol 1.0 does that job for everyday parking: a hardened 12 mm shackle is well beyond what bolt croppers of the size someone carries casually will manage, and the weatherproof barrel shield stops the mechanism seizing on a bike that lives outside — a genuinely common failure on cheap locks left through a Welsh winter. Where we would be honest with you is on high-value bikes left in public for hours, or overnight in a shared hallway or an unattended garage. That is a different security problem, it usually needs a Sold Secure rated lock to satisfy an insurer, and it is worth pairing any lock with a second one of a different type so no single tool defeats the whole setup.
Practical habits matter as much as the hardware: lock to something immovable rather than to itself, vary where you park, take the battery with you if it is removable, and record your frame number.
Carrying It on the Bike
Oxford supplies the Patrol 1.0 with a carry bracket, which matters more than it sounds — a lock left at home because it was awkward to carry protects nothing. Mount the bracket somewhere the lock does not foul your knees or your cables, and on a converted bike keep it clear of the motor cable and any controller wiring running along the frame. If you have a rack, a rack-mounted battery or a rear mudguard fitted, check the bracket has somewhere to go before you commit to a position.
Warranty and Returns
Every lock purchased from All4eBikes is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, alongside a 30-day return window.
