Looking for a Wide Range 7 Speed Cassette?
It is one of the most common searches we see, and it is worth being precise about, because “wide range 7 speed cassette” is used to describe two physically different parts. If your rear hub has threads on it — which covers most older mountain bikes, most budget city and trekking bikes, and the overwhelming majority of rear hub motor wheels — then a screw-on freewheel like this one is what you need, whatever the listing calls it. If your hub has a splined freehub body, you need a true cassette and this will not thread on.
Tooth counts vary between production batches of generic 7 speed clusters, so we do not publish a fixed range on this listing rather than risk you ordering the wrong ratios. If the gearing spread matters for your build — a steep commute in Cardiff, a heavy cargo setup, or a bike you want a genuinely low bottom gear on — message us before ordering and we will confirm the exact tooth count of current stock.
The Part Most Conversion Builds Forget
When people plan a rear hub motor build from our conversion kit range, the freewheel is usually the last thing they think about, and often the first thing to cause trouble. The motor wheel arrives bare: the threaded interface is there, but the cluster from your old wheel has to come across, and if that cluster is already worn there is no point transplanting it. Fitting a tired freewheel to a brand new motor wheel is how a build ends up skipping under load in week one.
There is a second reason to start fresh. Whether the power comes from a rear hub or from a mid-drive turning your bottom bracket, an assisted bike puts far more sustained torque through the same seven sprockets than legs alone ever did, and it does it at higher average speeds over more miles. Drivetrains on e-bikes are consumables, not fit-and-forget parts. Hardened steel sprockets help, but the useful habit is replacing the freewheel and the chain as a matched set — a new cluster running an old stretched chain will be hooked again within weeks, and a worn cluster will make even a new 7-8 speed derailleur shift badly.
Fitting It
Removal needs a freewheel removal tool that matches the splines on the old cluster, held in a vice or turned with a long spanner — the ratchet inside means the old freewheel has usually tightened itself hard against the hub over years of pedalling. Going back on, a smear of grease on the hub threads and hand-tightening is enough; the first firm pedal stroke seats it. If you do not have the tool, or your motor wheel is already built into the bike, our Cardiff workshop will swap it over and reindex the gears in one visit. For riders who are still assembling a build, our e-bike parts and battery range cover the rest of the system.
Warranty and Returns
Every 7 speed freewheel purchased from All4eBikes is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, alongside a 30-day return window.
Threaded Hub or Freehub — Not Sure Which You Have?
Send us a photo of your rear hub and we will tell you whether this freewheel threads on before you order.
