When a hub motor applies torque to spin the wheel forward, the reaction force tries to spin the axle backward inside the dropout slot. Without something resisting that force, the axle gradually works the dropout slot wider, and eventually the axle spins loose — the more power the motor puts out, the faster this happens, and it can go as far as damaging the frame or fork itself if left unchecked. This is a well-documented, community-verified DIY safety issue with high-power hub motor builds, not a manufacturer sales claim.
On a steel frame, one torque arm is often enough at these power levels. On an aluminium frame, fit one on both sides — aluminium dropouts deform more easily under the same torque, and losing that margin is not worth the small extra cost of the second set, which is why this listing includes two.
