A small ring magnet clips onto a spoke; the sensor body, bolted to the chainstay or dropout on an adjustable bracket, detects the magnet passing on every wheel rotation. Each pulse feeds back through the main wiring loom to the display and controller, which use it to show live speed and — just as importantly — to enforce the legal pedelec speed-limiter cutoff. Without a working sensor, the display shows no speed reading and the motor’s assist can cut out or behave inconsistently right around the cutoff speed.
The sensor bracket’s mounting stalk is thin, and it lives right next to the rear axle — exactly where a wheel gets pulled for a puncture or a tyre swap. It is very easy to forget the sensor is clipped on and snap the stalk pulling the wheel out. The magnet can also work loose from the spoke over time. Either fault gives the same symptom: no speed on the display, and assist that stops correctly at the legal limit or does not cut in reliably.
This sensor and its connector are shared across the current Bafang mid-drive line, so it fits the BBS01 250W kit, the BBS02 750W UART kit and the BBSHD 1000W kit alike. It works alongside the PAS sensor and gear sensor to feed your display everything it needs.
