What the Pinion Does
The pinion mounts directly on the motor’s fast-spinning output shaft and forms the first stage of the internal reduction gear train — it’s what meshes with the large nylon reduction gear that actually brings motor RPM down into a usable torque range at the crank. Wear here is often accompanied by wear on the mating nylon gear, since the two parts run directly against each other.
The G1/G2 Version Trap
This is a real, well-documented compatibility split that Bafang never reflected in external model names. The “old version” G1 pinion has a 10mm shaft and mates with a nylon gear that has a single row of needle bearings; the “new version” G2 pinion has a 12mm shaft and mates with a nylon gear with three rows of needle bearings and a smaller bore. A G2 gear’s smaller bore will not physically seat on a G1 pinion’s shaft. Since Bafang didn’t change the outside labelling, the only sure way to identify which you have is to open the motor and measure the shaft — this listing is for the G1 (10mm) version.
Fitment
Fits the BBS01 250W kit and BBS02 750W UART kit (older/G1 generation). Since this meshes directly with the nylon reduction gear, it’s worth inspecting both at the same time if either shows wear.
Warranty and Returns
Every Pinion purchased from All4eBikes is covered by a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, alongside a 30-day return window.
